These are my personal favorite events during the games, so I’m excited to dive into these.
Swimming Trivia Questions
- Which American swimmer has won the most Olympic medals, to date?
a. Michael Phelps. Now retired, he has a stash of 28 Olympic medals. 23 of which are gold. - How long is an Olympic swimming pool?
a. 50 meters. The shortest race is just one length of the pool. - What is the longest swimming event in the Olympics?
a. The 1,500 meters. It’s 30 laps of the pool. - Freestyle isn’t actually a stroke but a category. What stroke is commonly used during Freestyle?
a. The front crawl (sometimes called the forward crawl) - Which swimming stroke is used first in the Individual Medley?
a. Butterfly. - Which swimming stroke is used first in the Medley Relay?
a. Backstroke, since it starts in the water. - Men’s swimming dates all the way back to the first modern Olympics in 1896. When did women get to swim in the Olympics?
a. 1912, in the Stockholm games. - How many swimmers make up a relay race in swimming?
a. All the relay races, regardless of stroke or distance, use four swimmers. - In the final round of an Olympic swimming event, how many swimmers compete?
